Wireless Network Modes Explained

Generally, there are two well-known Wi-Fi modes of connectivity to get access to the internet and conduct all digital activities. Wireless technology has altered the means for people to connect to the internet via remote or local computers. 

The two main Wi-Fi operating modes include:

Wi-Fi Infrastructure Mode

Infrastructure mode is one of the poignant ways for linking to wireless networks. Such Wi-Fi modes permit devices such as laptops to connect with wireless networks through a defined Access Point (AP). 

These are the routers that connect with digital devices via an Ethernet port. Infrastructure mode needs the requirement of a wireless access point. It is essential to use SSID to configure Access Point (AP).

Wi-Fi Ad-hoc Mode

The other kind of Wi-Fi operating mode is Ad hoc Mode. Direct communication between various digital devices is made possible through this mode. 

The best feature of this model is that there is no such need for access points for effective communication. All devices in Ad hoc Modes connect in linear communication format as each device acts as client and access point at the same time. 

Wireless adaptors are required for configuration in setting up the Ad hoc mode. Ad hoc Mode is a constrained wireless network that allows people in a particular area to exchange data. 

Few other Wi-Fi modes of connection consist of the following:

  • WME- WME or Wireless Multimedia Extension is a kind of interoperation certification allowed by the Wi-Fi Alliance. It has its functional roots in the IEEE 802.11e protocol. It provides general quality of service that falls suitable for IEEE 802.11e standard. It is highly acceptable for well-defined applications.

  • WSM- WSM or Wireless Systems Manager is a type of professional software for proper monitoring and controlling monitoring systems. Due to its uniquely intelligent qualities, it is considered to be more suitable for TV studios and shows. WSM is used
