Head/Short-Tail Keywords

Types of keywords in seo

Also called generic keywords, the head keywords include just one or two words. These are very generic and popular, having a very high volume of search traffic and competition.

Mid-Tail Keywords

These keywords are up to three words in length, with a high volume of traffic. These are also difficult to rank for because of high competition.

For example: best seo company

Long-Tail Keywords

Long-tail keywords contain 3+ words and are very specific. These keywords don’t have massive search volume, but are easier to rank for because of low competition.

Geo-Targeted Keywords

When the search queries are related to a location the user is looking for, these are called geo-targeted keywords.

For example: samsung store near me, restaurant in vaishali nagar delhi

Transactional Keywords

The search queries that show the intent of some purchase and executing a transaction are called transactional keywords.

For example: buy laptop

Informational Keywords

The search queries which show that the searcher is looking out for some information are called informational keywords.

For example: how to take screenshots in laptop

Navigational Keywords

Navigational keywords are searched when the user is looking for a specific website. This can be to find a specific page on that site, doesn’t remember the exact domain name, etc.

What is Keywords Mixing?

Another great idea to improve rankings on Google is to create new keywords by combining/mixing the phrases. For example, there are users who search for queries like ‘buy web hosting GoDaddy’. Here the keyword was for the web hosting but the name of GoDaddy came after mixing it up. 

Keyword mixing can be done in a number of ways, like using the brand name with your keyword. 

Open Google Search and type in your keyword and then type ‘and’ or ‘or’. It will suggest many new keyword ideas. 

For example, if you search for ‘digital marketing’ and then add the ‘and’, it will show suggestions like ‘digital marketing and seo’, ‘digital marketing and affiliate marketing’, etc.

When you add ‘or’ after the same keyword, it will show suggestions, such as ‘digital marketing or mba’, ‘digital marketing or web development’, etc. 

This is a good technique to find the right keywords with low competition and low difficulty.
