ReactJS History Over The Years

React is relatively new compared to other technologies in the market.

  • Back in 2011, Jordan Walke, a software engineer at Facebook, created this library to handle the increasing number of updates.

  • Their code needed to be upgraded immediately to become more efficient and enhance the user experience. This marked the birth of ReactJS.

  • It was first used by Facebook in 2011. Later, when Facebook acquired Instagram, they too wanted to use React.

  • As the demand to use the technology grew with time, Facebook officially made it an open-source language at JSConf in May 2013.

  • In 2014, React started to expand, and Atom, a hackable text editor, was introduced.

  • In 2014, React Hot Loader was introduced. It is a plugin that allows the live loading of React components.

  • In 2015, React Native was announced to enable easy development. It was first made available for iOS and then launched for Android in the same year. It was open-sourced the same year.

  • In 2016, the React.js conference was held in San Francisco. Here, Draft.js was introduced. Later, with the introduction of React Storybook and Blueprint, React was mainstream.

  • In 2017, Facebook launched React Fiber. The new set of algorithms became the foundation of future improvements in the React library. Airbnb also introduced React Sketch app, a new open-source library. Netflix also removed React.js on the client-side.

  • In 2018, Beyond React 16 was introduced at the Iceland conference, and React 16.3.0 was released.

  • In 2019, new React DevTools were released.

  • In 2020, zero-bundle-size React server components were released to get feedback from the React development community. On August 10, the React team announced the release of React v17.0. This version was vital because it was introduced without any major changes to the React API.
